Francisco Jos\u00e9 de Goya y Lucientes naci\u00f3 en Fuendetodos, Zaragoza, Espa\u00f1a, el 30 de marzo de 1746. Se inici\u00f3 en la pintura en 1759 en la Academia de Dibujo de Zaragoza dirigida por Jos\u00e9 Luz\u00e1n, donde conoci\u00f3 al pintor Francisco Bayeu con quien estudi\u00f3 hasta 1770. Tras ganar en 1784 un concurso para realizar la decoraci\u00f3n de la Iglesia de san Francisco el Grande, consigui\u00f3 retratar a la duquesa de Osuna, que a trav\u00e9s de ella logr\u00f3 conocer a la duquesa de Alba. Con la fama obtenida por estos encargos, en 1789 fue nombrado pintor de c\u00e1mara del rey Carlos IV continuando su labor en la corte de Jos\u00e9 Bonaparte y de Fernando VII. Aun cuando su relaci\u00f3n con la realeza fue cercana, esto no le impidi\u00f3 frecuentar a sus amigos liberales. En 1824 viaj\u00f3 a Par\u00eds y se instal\u00f3 en Burdeos donde muri\u00f3 el 16 de abril de 1828, a los 82 a\u00f1os de edad.<\/p>\n

A lo largo de su vida Goya sufri\u00f3 grandes depresiones causadas principalmente por alguna enfermedad y por la p\u00e9rdida de la capacidad auditiva. Sus distintos estados de \u00e1nimo quedaron claramente expresados en los 80 aguafuertes que conforman la serie Los caprichos <\/em>que fue realizada entre 1793 y 1796. Pero, ser\u00e1 hasta el a\u00f1o de 1799 cuando dio a conocer al p\u00fablico la serie anunciando su venta a trav\u00e9s del Diario de Madrid<\/em>. Goya public\u00f3 en dicho anuncio un texto francamente atrevido para su \u00e9poca. En \u00e9ste, Goya advierte al p\u00fablico que la tem\u00e1tica de los grabados est\u00e1 dada por asuntos caprichosos, producto de su propia invenci\u00f3n, y asevera que la censura de los errores y vicios humanos no s\u00f3lo puede ser tratada en la poes\u00eda, sino que es tambi\u00e9n objeto de la pintura. Declar\u00f3 que su intenci\u00f3n no hab\u00eda sido ridiculizar los defectos particulares de un individuo, sino utilizar el rid\u00edculo para aludir a la naturaleza humana.<\/p>\n

En Los caprichos <\/em>el pintor no s\u00f3lo critic\u00f3 con agudeza el pensamiento y la sociedad de su \u00e9poca, sino que tambi\u00e9n abri\u00f3 nuevos caminos en la creaci\u00f3n pl\u00e1stica y el goce est\u00e9tico. Sin duda alguna, la calidad interpretativa y su originalidad convirtieron a esta serie de aguafuertes en una pieza clave de la historia del arte en occidente.<\/p>\n

La actualidad de estos grabados y su repercusi\u00f3n internacional en nuestros d\u00edas es palpable en las m\u00faltiples interpretaciones que de ellos se tienen; adem\u00e1s de la influencia que han ejercido sobre la pintura, la literatura y la m\u00fasica.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
